Master Marcos dos Santos

Born in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, Master Marcos was introduced to Capoeira at the age of eight in Natal. He joined the Associação of Capoeira Senzala, Santos, São Paulo in 1984 at the age of twelve. In 1991 Master Marcos was invited by the London School of Capoeira to join the school as one of the directors. In 2006 Master Marcos was awarded the master belt by Gran Master Sombra, of the Associação de Capoeira Senzala. Master Marcos’s qualification is recognised by The Brazilian Confederation of Capoeira, São Paulo, Brasil.

Throughout his career, Master Marcos has performed and taught at some of Europe’s most prestigious venues, for numerous arts and cultural events, as well as taking part in television and film work.

Master Marcos has helped to promote the following: Improvised Music /Dublin, The Dance Xchange, Patek Phillipe, VFC Cameras, Firefly Drinks, The Holiday Inn campaign, Elizabeth Arden launch /London, Nokia Mobile Launch/Paris, British Gas Launch/London, the Brazilian Embassy /Brazil 500 at the Dome, LEBANON 2000, WWF in the presence of Charles, Prince of Wales, National Maritime Mueum, National Lottery/Awards for all,  among others.

Master Marcos’s teaching and performing work with the company Passo Co in the UK and abroad will include the venues below.

The Barbican Centre, the Jazz Café, The Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Drill Hall Theatre, Lilian Baylis Theatre, Sadlers Wells, Stade Pierre de Coubertin, Paris, at various Womad Festivals, the Glastonbury Festival, the Edinburgh Festival, the Duke’s Theatre, Lancaster, Riverside Studios, London, The Mill Theatre, Oxford, the Jackson’s Lane Theatre, London, The Phoenix Theatre, Leicester, The Tabernacle Theatre, London, at the Lebanon 2000, Lebanon, The Dome, London, amongst many other Venues in the UK and Europe.

Passo Co’s movement language and physicality are simply tools however complicated and skilled they may seem. These are used to create ideas, stories and interaction with the audience.
